Joan Walton — Vintage dance teacher and choreographer

Joan Walton has taught classes in Ragtime, 1920s, 1930s and 19th Century dance at Vintage Dance workshops across America, as well as in Australia and the Czech Republic. The summer of 2008 will find her teaching at Stanford's Dance Weekend and the Newport Vintage Dance week. As Assistant Director and dancer with Richard Powers' Flying Cloud Vintage Dance Troupe for ten years, she performed all over the country, including at the Smithsonian and on the ABC-TV mini-series North and South.

Her high-energy, focused teaching, theatrical choreographic style and morning warmups have become well known to vintage dancers over the years. As a teacher, her strength lies in her ability to communicate movement concepts to all levels of learners with energy, humor and interest. A keen observer of learning styles, Joan has an ongoing interest in understanding the many ways that people learn to dance.

Teaching on the faculties of several universities has produced opportunities to choreograph Vintage Dances, Musical Theatre and award-winning Opera productions throughout the United States.She received a Master’s Degree in Dance Education from Stanford University and is currently teaching dance at several colleges and universities, choreographing and residing in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Jodi Fleishman

Jodi is an award winning dancer and performer. Known for her warm and playful teaching style, Jodi loves sharing her passion for all things dance -- over 17 years now! Schooled in African dance, Jodi became a Pacific Northwest Grand Lindy Hop Champion. She then studied Salsa in New York, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico and Cuba. Jodi’s current obsession is Waltz and Nightclub Two-step which she shared at Stanford’s Waltz Week.

Jodi has taught a variety of dances in locales as diverse as Alaska, Argentina, Sweden and the Caribbean. She teaches for several Seattle dance organizations as well as leading her own company, Left Foot Boogie. She has partner with David Dalmo and Lennart Westerland (Sweden’s Rhythm Hot Shots). To her unending delight, she has had the great honor to teach and perform with, on numerous occasions and at his request, the legendary Frankie Manning. Above all, what matters most to Jodi is the heart, the music and the connection with another on the dance floor.

Class Offerings

There will be two dance halls, offering you the ability to choose between a waltz or non-waltz class for each teaching slot.

Masked Ball

The Saturday night dance will be a Masked ball. Masquerade attire is admired, but not required. Masquerades can be any type of costume or masked attire.

Light snacks will be offered Saturday night during the break and a group photo will be taken around 9:30 PM.
